Branches and Beetles

This week has been absolutely so busy so far and I have hardly had any art time. I was able to finally get myself out of bed early this morning and did a bit of sketching and painting before the kids were up, and got in a bit of exercise too. Hopefully I can get back into the routine of that again, it really makes the morning a lot more enjoyable than getting up and feeling behind from the get-go.

In this spread I really love the way the vibrant colors contrast the paler neutrals. The imagery of the branch and the beetle make for a good pairing as well. There are a lot of intricate patterns and details that make for a lot to look at. I really enjoy when collages have a patchwork effect. Quilting is near and dear to my heart and I’m always happy to see quilt themes popping up in my work. I think what I enjoy most of all is the hand lettering. I really need to get back to my lettering practice. It truly is such an enjoyable part of my art practice. And the bold black really makes for an impactful aesthetic.

I am very much looking forward to celebrating Easter with my family this weekend and rejoicing over what Jesus accomplished for us.

Thanks for stopping by!

    1. My husband got me an inexpensive sewing machine for a birthday gift when we first got married. It worked half decently enough for sewing baby items for my kids but I must say that this newfound purpose suits it perfectly! I hope you get a sewing machine to try soon too!And thank you for your kind comment ❤️

  1. Beautiful! Love the patchwork collage and the stitched elements. I recently bought a sewing machine, but I’m still intimidated by it! I enjoy slow stitching on my mixed media pieces, but I do want to gather the courage to learn how to use the sewing machine!

    1. I was intimidated for a long time too, but when you start, it is pretty addictive! For me having some paper layers was key to getting a good hold with the stitches, when I practiced on a single unlayered page it didn’t work as well. If you do try, I would love to see!
