In the Works

I have been jumping back and forth between projects lately, as I am only able to create in small bursts, so it can be hard to get really sunk into something. So I just wanted to share a little of this and a little of that.

First off, this stack is what’s on my reading list. I have perused through the top two and am really excited to get some more time with these books. The publisher of these books is the sponsor of Sketchbook Revival and she happens to live in a city an hour away from me. I loved being able to watch her session on SR and learn a bit more about her process and the story behind the books.

Next up is what’s on my desk. I’m working on a tree painting in acrylic. The paper with dashes painted on it is the usual way I use up extra paint, and will go in the collage paper bin. And the red book is my next traveler’s notebook. It is my mom’s high school yearbook from when she lived on Prince Edward Island. The cover painting was inspired from a class I’m working on called Playing Big Botanical by Wendy Brightbill. The inside cover of the yearbook is an old photo of the high school which I outlined in black posca pen to give it a more illustrative look. It doesn’t match the cover scheme at all, but it’s quirky, sentimental, and I like it.

This is the next sketch in my mini junk journal. I’ve decided to try and do one sketch per day or every other day. I made so many mini junk journals the past few months and I want to just fill them with quick botanical sketches.

When I’m in bed at night and want something fairly easy to work on, then I pull out this journal cover which I am filling with seed stitches. The plan was maybe a tad ambitious. This is like 30 nights worth.

This page is one of my favorite sketches from Sketchbook Revival. It is from a session by Koosje Koene. I absolutely love this style of scribbling down some rough shapes with alcohol markers and then drawing on the image with a contrasting colored pencil.

And finally, my regular art journal content:

Thanks for stopping by!
