Making Collage Papers

After taking several lovely courses about making your own collage papers (The Layered Page by Kellee Wynne, Dynamic Paper Painting class by Kasia Avery, etc.) I have found a new way to cover my studio floor with paper! Even though it drives me crazy to work in a mess, I also get so inspired when I can see all my collage papers and materials with a glance. I would love a really big island to work on, so I could have several piles of paper and still have some clear desk space.

For these floral pages, I used a new technique. I started out by drawing the florals on white recycle paper with crayons. Then I used a wedge to spread some acrylic ink over the crayon for that wonderful resist technique. Then I used white acrylic paint to cover the negative space. I’m likely going to cut these up and use them in my art journals, but they are pretty enough to be a standalone piece. I could see a whole row of them framed in big white frames lining a hallway.

And before I forget, a great big Happy Thanksgiving to all the Americans reading this. We are actually selling our house in Canada because we want to move to the US. We have felt God calling us there for a few years now, and it feels like now is finally the time. So our hearts are celebrating with you all today! We are so thankful for all that God has done and is doing in our lives.

Numbers 6:24-26

β€œThe Lord bless you
    and keep you;
25 the Lord make his face shine on you
    and be gracious to you;
26 the Lord turn his face toward you
    and give you peace.”
