More Handmade Art Journals

I know that my intention for this blog was to post my art journaling. But, as things go, when I partake in something meant to spark creativity, well.. it sparks creativity, and off I go on all the rabbit trails. So, if you’re not a rabbit trail person and are strictly here for art journal inspiration.. hopefully the title will be enough to draw you in.. haha.

I haven’t had as much art time as I would like lately, so I’m confined to crafting bursts in bed at night with whatever energy I have left. Naturally that lends itself best to embroidery. I have been working away each night at handmade journal covers. So far I have completed two journals and have two more in the works. Sometimes, I realize partway through, that my embroidery plans were rather ambitious, but I enjoy it, so I persist.

I spent so much time drooling over handmade journals before I finally tried it. And now I’m wondering why I haven’t been doing this for years. I absolutely love books and journals of any kind, so to be able to bind them myself and create a custom cover is an absolute delight. My advice here: if you are a creative person and find yourself obsessing over something online.. just try making it! I doubt you will be sad you did.

I have a bunch of fabric in my stash, both remnants from my mom’s sewing and quilting days, and also pretty remnants I’ve squirreled away along the way. But of course, I couldn’t help but check out the local fabric store, just for some inspiration. I ended up finding a remnant bin with some pretty incredible stuff in it, all for around $1-3 (70% off retail). This was a cost-effective way to add some solids (I literally have almost no solid fabric.. I’m a maximalist at the best of times), as well as some pretty and unique fabrics to the stash. I also bought some lace, because I love making a quilted cover, and then layering over it with lace to tie it all together. You could call it the wash of sewing, if that makes any sense! Haha

I would happily talk about sewing art journals all day, but it would help me out greatly if you have any questions, and I’d be happy to make a post about that! I hope you had some creative time today!
