Art Journal: Expectation

I think this journal spread gave me the worst case of procrastination to date. It’s still not my favourite when I pop open my journal, but I think it’s important to not always rush to cover up something we don’t love. Sometimes when we sit with it, it becomes familiar to us, and that familiarity can cause a little spark of joy.

When I originally started this art journaling process, I had kind of expected it to become my entire art practice. I needed a break from everything else. But the absolute opposite happened. When I watched the class that inspired me to start art journaling, that inspired me to take more online classes. So I purchased a bunch of classes. And now I am watching art videos in every minute of my spare time, and when I’m able to have some time to create, I am just bursting with ideas to try. I find myself having a hard time getting to my art journal.

There is something truly so wonderful, and even a bit mystical about creativity. You can’t really pin it down. And when you feed that creative side of yourself, it’s like a dam opens, and all these ideas just pour out. I know it may not always be like that, and so you have to learn to ride the waves.

What is something that is sparking your creativity lately? I’d love to hear!

  1. Love this: “Sometimes when we sit with it, it becomes familiar to us, and that familiarity can cause a little spark of joy.” Such true words!
