I’m calling this one, “Egg Meadow” because the daisies remind me of eggs and I can’t help but smile
I’m signed up for Kellee Wynne’s {Color for Your Inbox} and her recent email was all about using grids in your journals. She had so many lovely grids on a little preview video in the email, and so of course I was inspired and wanted to try. I decided that one of my hand made journals would be perfect for the task, as the pages are cardstock and hold up fairly well to the paint. I have been wanting to become a more proficient landscape painter and develop my style in that genre and so I thought a grid journal would be a perfect place to practice. These are approximately 3 inch squares and I will be able to fit so many paintings into this journal, which means loads of practice.
I can see this also being useful for sketches of painting ideas, abstract practice, and even mini collages. I always love finding art ideas that are versatile. For the mini painting above, I just painted the square white first as I couldn’t be bothered to get out the gesso. The paper soaks in the paint fairly well, so gesso would definitely be a good idea going forward. I used acrylic paint, and then did the finishing touches with pencil crayons and pastel pencils. I’m looking forward to trying some more mixed media options in this journal. I love incorporating unexpected mediums together and am constantly experimenting and playing with new ideas.
I discovered a new song while painting last night, and thought I would share the lyrics here, they are so uplifting.
Not Even Once
Benjamin William Hastings
Yeah, the fact that I’m still standing is a tribute to Your grace
It’s a miracle I made it, it’s a legacy of days
Where You made a way though there was no way out
But You never failed, so why doubt You now?
[Chorus]
When I found You faithful, the God who breaks no vow
You kept Your word so many times that I lost count
But that’s just Your nature, You won’t go changing now
I can’t recall a single time You let me down
Not even once, oh, no-no-no
Not even once, no
[Verse 2]
Just the fact that I’m still standing is a tribute to Your grace
‘Cause the depths of my transgressions You abandoned like the grave
When You made a way though there was no way out
But did You not prevail? So why doubt You now?
[Chorus]
When I found You faithful, the God who breaks no vow
You kept Your word so many times that I lost count
That’s just Your nature, You won’t go changing now
I can’t recall a single time You let me down, no
[Bridge]
You never let me down, You never let me down
Oh, oh
You never let me down, You never let me down
Not even once (Woo!)
You never let me down, You never let me down
Oh, oh (Not even for a moment)
You never let me down, You never let me down
Not even once
[Chorus]
I found You faithful (Yes, I did)
The God who breaks no vow
You kept Your word so many times that I lost count
That’s just Your nature (That’s just the way You are)
You won’t go changing now (I know)
I can’t recall a single time You let me down, hey
[Outro]
You never let me down, You never let me down
Oh, oh
You never let me down, You never let me down
Not even once (Not even once I recall)
You never let me down, You never let me down
Oh, oh (You never let me down)
You never let me down, You never let me down
Not even once
Thanks for stopping by!
