Portrait Mode

I recently realized that if you are photographing flowers in your garden in portrait mode, you can get some really ethereal effects. I understand that this is probably old news, but in case you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend it. It works best when taking photos of clusters of flowers, because you get that wonderful depth of field. The flowers in the first photo are orange yarrow; the colour has really faded since they first bloomed.

I love flipping through my camera roll at the end of summer to see all of the garden flowers in varying stages. I live in Canada and summer is always so short and sweet, so I am constantly trying to get more reference photos that I can use throughout the winter. I also enjoy going on winter photo walks, but I need flowers always and always.

If you have any photography tips that you enjoy, feel free to share!
